Prof.Dr.Osman Tuğrul Altay
I was born in 1959 in Osmaniye. I completed my primary, secondary, and high school education at TED Ankara College. In 1982, I graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry. Later, I obtained my PhD and associate professorship degrees in the field of prosthodontics.
Between 1985 and 1994, I worked as a contracted faculty member at Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry, and between 2003 and 2012 at Başkent University Faculty of Dentistry. I received the title of Professor in 2017.
Afterward, I taught courses in both Turkish and English at Biruni, Antalya Bilim, and Girne Universities. I am currently working at the Kathmandu University Faculty of Dentistry and at my own clinic in Ankara
My mother, Fevziye Altay, and my father, İsmail Altay, graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry in 1948. My father worked in his own clinic for more than fifty years. He was very curious and was one of the most successful dentists of his time. In 1971, he founded ALTAY Laboratories, which operated in the fields of cast metal framework prostheses, fixed prostheses, and removable prostheses, employing 22 technicians. This laboratory provided services to dentists and dental faculties all across Turkey, and even to dentists in Germany.
My father was also my mentor; I began learning how to make prostheses in his laboratories when I was 12 years old.
In addition, the dental gold alloy my father produced, called “İropal,” was the first dental material patented in Turkey.
My Family
My wife, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Nil Altay, graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry in 1986. In 1991, she completed her PhD in Pedodontics at the same university. She became an associate professor in 1995 and a full professor in 2003. Between 2003 and 2009, she served as Vice Dean at Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry.
She retired from Hacettepe University in 2011. From 2013 to 2019, she worked as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Dentistry in the Sultanate of Oman. During the same period, she also taught PhD courses at Near East University in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Between 2021 and 2022, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Antalya Bilim University. Since 2022, she has been working part-time at Near East University.
I have two sons. My elder son, Osman Sarp Altay, was born in 1989. After graduating from TED Ankara College High School, he completed his studies in the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University. He continues his career in the field of cinema as a film director, assistant director, and art director.
My younger son, Çevik Berk Altay, was born in 1993. He is a graduate of TED Ankara College High School. After completing his undergraduate studies in Psychology at İzmir University of Economics, he earned his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in Berlin, Germany. He is currently working as a clinical psychologist.
